Village Enters Into Agreement New Consolidated Highways Services Agreement for Road Repairs / Snow Plowing Services
As previously reported in the June 2011 Mayor's Message, cost containment is a priority, especially with regards to big-ticket items such as Highway Services (e.g., Road Repairs, Snow Plowing Services). As previously reported, because of a Time and Materials agreement between the Village of Pomona and the Town of Haverstraw, and as a result of an unprecedented Winter 2010-2011 season, costs associated with this arrangement ballooned $50K over budget the prior year's budget.
While the Mayor aggressively pursued a Fixed Price Contract with the Town of Haverstraw - similar to what the Village has with the Town of Ramapo, Haverstraw officials determined that the only palatable contract between the Town and the Village was still a Time and Materials budget, in addition to the Village purchasing at least one (1) new $ 250K truck for the Town of Haverstraw. Unfortunately for the Town, but not the Village, the Mayor negotiated a consolidated Fixed Priced Contract with the Town of Ramapo and if this 2011-2012 Winter Season resembles the prior year, it will save upwards of $60K. This new agreement went into effect just prior to Hurricane Irene making an appearance in our area, thus the initially savings are at least $30K.
Debris Collection (Organic)
October snowstorm - Due to the unprecedented damage sustained throughput the Village (and region) as a result of the early October 2011 snow event, i.e., debris from falling trees, the Town of Ramapo has requested that all organic debris resulting from this snow storm be placed at curbside. Any tree debris (wood or twigs) must be in 5 ft Max lengths. The Town of Ramapo, which the village has recently entered into a contract with, is working with all contracted villages, to pick-up and remove this debris. It may take some time, so please be patient. We are requesting that all debris be placed at the curb before February 1, 2012, but NOT in the road.
Garbage Collection - Christmas Trees
On Thursday's, throughout January (2012), our sanitation carter - Donato Marangi, Inc., will be collecting Christmas Trees from the past holiday season.
